This Business Growth Readiness Health Check survey is designed to make sure that you, and your professional services business are ready to take the next steps to substantially grow your business, with the knowledge that your business set-up, business growth plan and resources are fully prepared to manage the transformation effectively.

According to Forbes there are 4 phases in the business life-cycle: start-up, growth, maturity and renewal/rebirth or decline.

A good example is how many accounting firms that have traditionally focussed on bookkeeping, compliance, and statutory accounting services, have more recently added “advisory services” to significantly grow their businesses, to better serve their existing clients and to attract and serve new clients.

I believe that one of the most common causes of underperformance of professional services organisations is that senior executives don’t have enough time to think about long-term strategy.

1. Cash Management and Forecasting are Critically Important for all SME’s.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, more than 60 percent of SME’s fail within the first three years of their start-up journey.

This doesn’t mean their product or service wasn’t good enough! More often than not, it simply means they didn’t fully understand the importance of managing and forecasting their available cash resources.

The impact on businesses of the Covid 19 pandemic made it clear that keeping their finances strong has been the top priority for the majority of SME’s.

For many companies, cashflow management and forecasting required urgent attention, to maintain their liquidity & even their survival.

– What’s your backlog of business (Firm orders) and timeline for delivery and payment?

– What’s in your sales pipeline (potential orders) and how much is for your current clients and how much is for new clients?

– Looking for short-term growth, do you have enough skilled people to achieve and manage the increase in volumes?

– How’s staff morale? Are you looking after your people properly?

– Customer Satisfaction is obviously important. Are you meeting with your key customers regularly to build a trusting relationship?

Most of these things aren’t complicated in their own right, you might think they’re fairly straightforward and obvious, but unless you step-back and look at them, you may tend not to make the changes required, because you’re too busy working IN your business to think about them.
